As the rupee slid to a record low, sugar exports from India have gained momentum due to strong demand from Indonesia and Iran. This has increased the exporters' margins from overseas sales. India is the world's biggest producer of sugar and higher exports from here could put pressure on global prices and limit shipments from rivals such as Brazil and Thailand.

The concessionary period granted for importers to clear the containers from all commercial ports only with basic charges ended on the 8th May 2020. Going forward, the importers will have to pay late fees to clear the containers. Four warehouses of the Colombo Port are filled to the maximum capacity.

India’s non-basmati rice exports are set to increase demand from new buyers such as Malaysia and the Philippines. Firming prices, coupled with a decline in rupee, is seen aiding the shipments of the cereal. After almost a 40 per cent decline in shipments during the last financial year, the demand from new buyers should help the recovery in exports this year.

The West Bengal government did not allow the cross-border movement of essential goods via the Indo-Bangladesh border. The traders claimed that trucks loaded with rice are stuck at the border, causing daily losses to the freight companies. After the MHA has intervened and directed strictly to the West Bengal state government, rice exports to Bangladesh through West Bengal will likely begin soon.

India annually exports 10-12 lakh tonnes of buffalo meat valued at Rs 20,000 crore. Exports have come to a standstill as most meat units ran out of existing stocks and animal markets have been shut for weeks. Meat sales and exports may pick up significantly as the curbs will slowly be lifted. The GOI is considering reviving animal markets and allowing movement of goats, sheep and buffaloes by road, especially in the UP.

The GOI is keen to attract these investments into the country and the exporters are looking to grab China’s share in the global market. India's share in the $1 trillion global plastic exports market is 1% currently, while China's is as much as 10%.

The Karnataka government has allowed garment units in red zone districts, but outside containment zones, to resume operations. All garment factories having IEC and registered with the AEPC can start operations with one-third of the total workforce in red zone districts. The permission is subject to following the Standard Operating Procedures.

The Nepalese government has allocated Rs 3.42 billion to fight Coronavirus pandemic. CONCOR-run dry port at Birgunj in Nepal has built a stockpile of 4,000 boxes despite having a storage capacity of 1,500 containers. The government has started bringing additional kits for COVID-19 test from Germany through the Nepali Army.
