Three webinars have been conducted under the guidance of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for orange-growers.

ET | Rs 10,000 crore export sops stoppage causing liquidity challenges

The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has sought support from the government to execute new orders amid exporters facing liquidity challenges due to the stoppage of export benefits of over Rs. 10,000 crore under a key scheme along with refunds of the integrated goods and services tax (IGST). The Merchandise Export from India Scheme (MEIS) would be wound up by December 31, 2020 and the government has already capped the benefits under it to Rs. 2 crore per exporter from September 1st – 31st December 2020.

The Centre has asked all states to ensure that there should be no restrictions on inter-state and intra-state movement of persons and goods during the ongoing unlocking process. In a communication to chief secretaries of all states and Union Territories, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said there were reports that local level restrictions on movement were being imposed by various districts and states.

Kolkata Customs is likely to allocate a separate zone within the Syama Prasad Mookerjee port area to handle cargo headed for Nepal. Once operational, this zone will be the first dedicated freight/cargo handling area for Nepal inside any port area in India. It will significantly boost cargo movement and reduce handling time for consignments headed to Nepal through the port in Kolkata. The Nepal Transit and Warehousing Company Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nepal government, had sought land to set up a warehouse.

All the major carriers are experiencing equipment shortages at Asian ports with popular 40ft high cubes in particular short supply at Chinese depots. Anecdotal reports to The Loadstar suggest CMA CGM currently has a shortage of equipment at all of the main Chinese ports, while other carriers are advising of shortages at some docks and near normal availability at others.

The government has decided to send 1,475 tonnes of hilsa fish to India as a gesture of goodwill on the occasion of Durga Puja, an annual Hindu festival, and has already given the go-ahead to nine exporters to begin shipments from the next week. The commerce ministry shared the info via a circular issued on September 10.

With an aim to make Kempegowda International Airport (KAI) a cargo hub, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) recently opened what is said to be India’s first on-Airport Public Bonded Warehouse, which is expected to reduce supply chain costs and facilitate trade in and around Bengaluru. According to BIAL, the facility will help re-export of goods, long-term storage of bonded cargo, assist in partial clearances and allow value-added services such as labelling, packing and re-packing services.
