The commerce ministry has suggested imposition of anti-dumping duty for five years on a Chinese chemical used in dye and pharma industries to guard domestic players from cheap imports. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has recommended the duty after concluding in its probe that '1-phenyl-3-methyl -5-pyrazolone' from China has been exported at dumped prices into India, which impacted the domestic industry.

Karnataka is prepared to have an excellent mango season this year and expects to record yield of 1.6 mln tons and potentially an increase in exports. Last year, the priced fruit was caught amid the pandemic, with several countries scrapping imports over infection concerns. Also, the yield had shrunk to 700,000 tons due to unseasonal rains.

Container monitoring specialist Container xChange has mentioned a “positive trend” observed on the organisation’s Container Availability Index (CAx) that it says could make Chinese New Year the turning point. Values for 20-foot dry cargo containers (20DCs) and 40-foot dry cargo containers (40DCs) improve to 0.34 and 0.37, respectively, indicating much higher availability of empty containers than last month.

But the hikes are likely to cover imports of a few billion dollars only or a tiny fraction of the country’s annual imports ($475 billion in FY20).
