On Monday, the commerce ministry said it had begun a COVID-19 helpdesk to help resolve issues of exporters and importers about international trade, such as customs clearance delays and banking matters. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), an arm of the ministry, took this initiative to monitor exports and imports and the difficulties faced by trade stakeholders because of the surge in COVID-19 cases.

On April 23rd, a 72HR strike notice was issued by CUPE 375, Syndicat Des Débardeurs, advising of a planned industrial action at the Port of Montreal, to begin Monday, April 26th @ 0700HRS. On Sunday, Bangladesh closed its border with India for two weeks because of the sharp increase in coronavirus cases in the neighboring country. The border closure came as the COVID-19 situation kept suspended flight operations between the two countries since April 14.

The Control Room, which was developed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), has monitored and resolved problems.
