Pipavav Port, which was Cyclone ‘Tauktae,’ has halted cargo operations till June 1, the port’s operator Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd said in a trade advisory on Wednesday. GPPL said that it would notify force majeure shortly. This absolves firms from meeting their contractual commitments for reasons beyond their control.

Last week, supply chain visibility platform Project44 claimed rollover rates were rising at ports around the world and labeled Malaysia’s Port Klang as the worst performer, with 64% during April. Port Klang has slammed claims it is suffering “endemic congestion,” caused by nearly two-thirds of all boxes being rolled last month.

To augment exports of Geographical Indication (GI) certified products, a consignment of Dahanu Gholvad Sapota from Palghar district of Maharashtra was today shipped to the United Kingdom. Maharashtra Rajya Chikoo Utpadak Sangh holds GI certification of Ghovad Sapota, and the fruit is known for its sweet and unique taste. It is believed that the unique taste is derived from the calcium-rich soil of Gholvad village.

GST officers have been armed with real-time data of commercial vehicle movement on highways to integrate the e-way bill (EWB) system with FasTag and RFID. This move will help live vigilance of such vehicles and check GST evasion.

Union Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal wrote to his counterpart Valdis Dombrovskis last week to initiate the process for resumption of trade and investment negotiations following a decision in this regard arrived at the India-EU Leaders' Summit on May 8. This would involve setting up negotiating groups on different tracks and beginning formal engagement by the two sides.

Despite covid cases, India exported a record 19.8 million tonne (MT) of rice and wheat in FY21 on the back of attractive overseas prices of the commodities and massive surplus production at home.
