Basmati rice exports are expected to take a hit because of the recent move by some West Asian nations to tighten pesticide residue norms without prior intimation, said concerned exporters. The All-India Rice Exporters Association (AIREA) has raised the issue with the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, stating that Oman, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE and Saudi Arabia are among the nations that have adopted pesticide residue norms at par with those in the European Union (EU).

India’s rice exporters are gearing up to ship the grain to the Philippines from next month as the Southeast Asian nation has reduced the import duty on rice being shipped from India to 35% from 50%. The Philippines is the second-largest importer of the commodity in the world.

Because of the ongoing political situation in Colombia, now in week 4, our operations in Buenaventura have reached a standstill. Demonstrations, work stoppage, road blockages to/from Buenaventura resulted in heavy port congestion, over capacity and closures in the terminals at the port of Buenaventura.

To reduce the terminal congestion that Chiwan (CCT/MCT) and Shekou (SCT) terminal are facing, both terminals announced the implementation of the Export Laden gate-in arrangement. With effect from 1st of June, 2021, export laden containers can only gate-in both terminals three days before vessel arrival (ETA) till further notice.

The Operation at Yantian International Container Terminal (YICT) is disrupted because of the COVID-19 implications. Hapag-Lloyd will temporarily change the Far East Loop 2/3 from calling Yantian to Nansha Container Terminal for a few sailings to limit the impact and ensure business continuity.
