Amid COVID-19 and lockdown in the country, Maersk India urged its customers to switch from road to inland rail service for faster and uninterrupted container movement. Grounding of passenger flights took away capacity from air cargo too. But, rail is the only mode of transport that seems to flow freely throughout the country.

China has taken on India for imposing additional restrictions on investors from the country. It has said that the barriers directed only at a few nations violated the WTO principle of `non-discrimination'. According to the Chinese spokesperson’s statement, they do not conform to the consensus of G20 leaders to realise a free, fair, transparent, and stable trade and investment environment.

M.K. Raghavan, MP, has sought the intervention of the Union government to stop the collection of demurrage and ground rent from importers and exporters at the Vallarpadam CFSS. Truckers and transporters are increasing prices by 80%. Freighter operators are adding surcharges for transportation of goods. They are facing regulatory challenges, shortage of manpower and a huge slump in supply. Blue Dart has implemented a 25% emergency situation surcharge (ESS). Air India might increase freight charges by 90% per kilo if it doesn’t have sufficient cargo to ferry.
