75,000 containers are stuck at Chennai port and the various CFSs in the city. This has caused concern among the authorities because they are falling short of drivers to move the cargo. India, the world's second-biggest producer of sugar, permitted export of additional 745-tonne raw sugar under its tariff-rate quota (TRQ) to the US. This enables shipments to enjoy relatively low tariff. India enjoys duty-free sugar exports to the US for up to 10,000 tonnes annually.

Despite operating through the COVID-19 crisis at full capacity, Sri Lanka’s Colombo port’s container terminals are crowded causing massive difficulties inside the port. The All India Transporters Welfare Association (AITWA) has demanded the hassle-free movement of trucks across state-borders. It also sought health insurance cover to each truck driver. The e-passes issued by AITWA could be used as proof of each driver on duty for insurance purposes.
