The issues were pertaining to internal trade, manufacturing, delivery and logistics of essential commodities during the lockdown period. The matters were further addressed to the concerned state government, district and police authorities as well as other agencies to resolve supply chain issues.

Earlier, the government had extended till April 30 the validity of e-way bills, required for inter-state movement of goods worth over Rs 50,000. Now, it has been extended until May 31, 2020. These are applicable for those that were to expire between March 20 and April 15. For ODC like trucks, the validity is one day for every 20 km.

As against a storage capacity of 1,500 containers of 20 ft each, the port at Birgunj in Nepal has built a stockpile of 4,000 boxes, as importers in Nepal are barely taking deliveries. At least seven rakes returned empty from Birgunj. Nepal barely has any exportable cargo. Non-availability of trucks and labour at Birgunj are major reasons behind the slow movement of cargo.

Continued restrictions on air travel and delays to port entry have hampered traditional supply lines for freight companies. In the past, they have relied heavily on flights and shipping to move goods around the world.
