The Nepalese government has allocated Rs 3.42 billion to fight Coronavirus pandemic. CONCOR-run dry port at Birgunj in Nepal has built a stockpile of 4,000 boxes despite having a storage capacity of 1,500 containers. The government has started bringing additional kits for COVID-19 test from Germany through the Nepali Army.

The electronic cargo system at India and Nepal ports now does away with Indian Customs’ check of Nepal’s third-country imports. The ECTS is an electronic seal that ensures the free movement of the container through the international border.

The apparel-makers have requested for a full waiver on the detention charges levied by the shipping lines for holding containers beyond the free time. Detention charges include the money that merchants pay for the use of container within and outside of the terminal beyond the free period. But the shipping lines in gross disregard to the notice have continued to collect the charge.

State-owned CONCOR has re-started a direct service linking its ICD at Hyderabad with the terminal run by PSA International Pte Ltd at Chennai Port Trust after more than three years. The rail is increasingly being used by the EXIM trade to move cargo amidst a nationwide lockdown. The rail is raising its game to get a bigger chunk for transportation of containers to and from the ports.

The UP state government gave a green signal to export-oriented leather industries of the city to start production in their units, subject to the condition that they will comply with the safety advisory issued by the district administration. The industries department made it clear that this relief has been given to shoe, belt, purse, saddlery and other leather goods manufacturing units.

In the wake of a drop in the average traded wholesale price of onions in Maharashtra’s markets, the state government has written to the central government seeking a subsidy-based export scheme for onions. As the domestic demand slackens and exports via the road route face administrative hurdles, the state agricultural marketing board is pushing for exports to Bangladesh via the rail route.
