Hapag Lloyd informs customers inform that The Montreal Longshore Union (CUPE 375) and the Checkers Union (ILA) remain on an indefinite strike, and negotiations are ongoing. MGT and Termont Terminals will remain fully shut down during the strike. CN Rail have seen an unprecedented surge in demand on their Halifax routes in direct response to the vessel diversions, and so congestion is building at inland ramps, resulting in longer wait times, and reduced reservation (RV) availability. Hapag Lloyd informs customers that due to the continued Industrial action in the Port of Montreal, the terminal performance in the port will continue to be severely affected by the strike. This event is well beyond Hapag Lloyd AG’s control. As the situation develops, it may prove necessary to divert further vessels and they will keep you informed accordingly. Additional costs for cargo furtherance to/from the diversion ports are provided.

SAFMARINE | Revamp of Europe to Middle East & Indian Subcontinent network

Safmarine informs customers of updates to their Europe to the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent network. The updated network will connect more cargo via their hub in Colombo (Sri Lanka), allowing an option of consolidation from different origins and better connection for cargo from West Central Asia. Furthermore, by linking the Middle East stronger to key hubs in Europe, the changes provide additional flexibility and agility to move cargo between different markets.

HAPAG LLOYD | China – New Restriction for the Acceptance of Waste Cargo – Update

Hapag Lloyd informs customers with the latest information from the Department of Solid Wastes and Chemicals of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE). The MEE division will publish a catalogue of solid waste products which is currently under preparation within MEE. The new revision stipulates that hazardous waste is prohibited from transit through the territory of the PRC. However, existing regulations for the transit of non-hazardous solid waste in China will remain unaffected. The timeline for the implementation of the regulation has been changed to January 1, 2021.

Hapag Lloyd informs customers that as of week 36, MV “CMA CGM Lamartine”, the IMX will continue to replace the La Spezia call for one more cycle with a Piraeus call. The revised port rotation of the IMX has been provided. Besides faster connections from India and Pakistan into East Mediterranean locations, the Piraeus call on IMX offers solid connections into Black Sea and Adriatic. Also, it will facilitate fast transit to Alexandria & Beirut, feeder options to connect Israel, Libya and Syria and reduction to only one transhipment.

In his Independence Day address, the Chennai Port Trust Chairman P Raveendran announced that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has accorded the approval to take up the project on the EPC mode.

India’s biggest channel deepening work at JNPT is heading for litigation with the team of Belgian and Dutch dredging contractors invoking arbitration to recover unpaid dues of Rs. 200 crores on the contract that was completed in February 2019. JNPT had hired a joint venture between Boskalis Smit India LLP and Jan De Nul Dredging India Pvt Ltd through a global tender in September 2017 to allow bigger parcel size ships to dock.

MARITIME GATEWAY | BHUTAN OPENS NEW TRADE ROUTE WITH INDIA

Bhutan and India opened a new trade route on 15 July. The new trade route passes through the Indian town of Jaigaon in West Bengal and leads to Alhay near Pasakha in Bhutan. It is a temporary measure, announced by India at the behest of Bhutan. It is in recognition of the special bond that the two countries maintain, and India’s effort to support Bhutan in this tough time.

MARITIME GATEWAY | CHINA REDUCES TARIFFS TO ZERO ON 97% OF BANGLADESH EXPORTS

China has reduced tariffs for Bangladeshi imported products under its Preferential Tariff Program from July 1. The result means some 97 percent of all Bangladeshi products from 60 percent. China will now provide duty-free export benefits to an additional 5,161 products from Bangladesh, taking the total number of products to 8,256, including the items admissible under the agreement of the Asia Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA)
