A ‘One Nation, One Port’ idea is gradually taking shape with the Centre drafting an Indian Ports Bill to substitute the Indian Ports Act 1908 that will give it sweeping powers to “regulate and control” ports which are in the concurrent list of the Constitution.

The plan to regulate freight charges is one of the new provisions in the draft Merchant Shipping Bill, 2020. The Central government has decided to handle freight charges imposed by shipping firms for local transportation, import and export in a move that is bound to run into opposition from the carriers.

Madhya Pradesh will be adding more inland container depots to strengthen its logistics infrastructure. Considering the fact that the concentration of container depots are in western and northern parts of state, new depots will be opened in the eastern and southern districts of the state. Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion Minister Rajwardhan Singh Dattigaon discussed setting up depots in Satna, Katni, Jabalpur and Chhindwara to promote exports with Union minister.
