Andhra Pradesh will use a deepwater port to export rice for the first time in decades amid a global shortage of the grain, according to a government order seen by Reuters, which could raise shipments this year by a fifth. The order, issued late on Wednesday, allows Kakinada Deep Water Port to handle rice until more capacity is created at Anchorage Port.

At its AGM in December, the airline had proposed to its shareholders a special resolution to ‘transfer the cargo business as a wholly-owned subsidiary’. It had said it “plans to add more cargo aircraft to scale up SpiceXpress’ existing capacity and transform it into a fullscale freighter cargo service”. The shareholders had voted in favour of this resolution.

According to cotton stakeholders, the Budget’s announcement on growing customs duty on cotton may cast a shadow on India’s advantage in premium/ high-end garment exports to the world. The cotton stakeholders also expressed concerns about losing the international market, especially the US and Europe, to neighbouring competitors in Bangladesh and Pakistan and Vietnam.

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and Hapag-Lloyd have announced the launch of two separate block train services that will provide shippers with on-time deliveries, as driver shortages, particularly in China, impact service reliability. An MSC block train composed of 84TEU made its way from Jinhua to the Ningbo-Zhoushan port on 27 January, marking the first special block train from Jinhua to Ningbo Swiss-based carrier.
