MONEY CONTROL | One year on, government yet to notify product standards for key imports

Even after more than a year when the government decided to bring in more stringent and extensive product standards for at least 371 key imports, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has till now finalized standards for only a few items such as toys. The move was aimed at reining in runaway imports, mostly from China, that raised the merchandise trade deficit.

For January, Global traffic showed that air cargo demand exceeded levels registered in January 2019, marking a complete recovery from the effects of the Covid-19 crisis, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported on Tuesday. January figures also showed strong month-to-month growth over December 2020 levels, increasing more than 3 percent on robust manufacturing output, said IATA.
