The salvage firm hired to unlodge the Ever Given from the Suez Canal banks reported Monday that the container ship had been successfully refloated, allowing other vessels to start transiting the canal by later today and the backlog of vessels to potentially be cleared by the end of the week.

The Indian sugar industry is upbeat on exports, even though there is a drop in global prices for the commodity, largely because of the two key decisions taken in mid-February. Two key decisions taken by the Union Government to help the sugar industry have buoyed the commodity’s exports and meet the shipment target of six million tonnes (mt) for the current season (October 2020-September 2021)

Turmeric prices have begun to gain on exports to Bangladesh and Gulf countries. As per the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare’s first advance estimate of horticultural crops, turmeric production is projected to be 11.06 lakh tonnes (lt) this season (July 2020-June 2021) compared with 11.53 lt the previous season.

The vessel EVER GIVEN has refloated and will be towed to Great Bitter Lake for inspection. Towage operations for the vessel should commence very soon during high tide. The damaged area of the canal will be inspected and repaired if necessary.
